Constraints On Travel To Canada Commencing September 30th

According to its immigration ministry, foreign nationals (Europeans included), who enjoy visa exemptions, flying to or through Canada will soon need an eTA or Electronic Travel Authorization.

Constraints on travel to Canada commencing September 30th

New regulations had already been rolled out in mid-March, but a grace period has been in effect since then because of technical setbacks. However, starting September 30th, officials will commence strict enforcing of the rules.

US nationals will be exempt under this regulation.

Other overseas nationals, including those in transit or those making a stopover, have to complete an online eTA form, much before embarking on their trip, and expend an administrative fee of Can$7 (i.e. USD 5.29)

Following completion of the online form, travel permission to Canada will be sent via email and the same will be effective for a period of five years.

The ministry, on its website, stated – “Most applicants get approved within minutes. However, some applications can take several days to process so don’t wait until the last minute.”

This initiative, similar to the one arranged by USA in the year 2008, will have an effect on more than three million travelers per annum from over 50 nations.
